Jewelry is very close to everyone’s heart. What makes them even more special is the dazzling glowing effect. However, with time, the surface becomes dull and the glow starts to fade out. The ultimate need is an effective jewelry cleaning solution which imparts back the original glow instantly.
Different metal pieces such as gold and silver require different kinds of maintaining techniques -the reason being that if one method works well on silver, it may ideally not work on gold. So, here is a gist of how to clean your jewelry at home with some easy tips and tricks
Gold- Gold is one metal which is the most prone to getting dirty. Wearing gold rings, chains and pendants during showers, or while spraying perfumes and deodorants can be really harmful. While taking shower, soaps and detergents can clog the prong setting of rings or gunk up the gold chains. So a good way to clean up such gold jewel pieces is to give it a nice bubble bath. The way to do it is to add non-detergent soap or a mild soap in water. Take a strainer and add all the jewel pieces to it. Now leave the jewels in the water for about five minutes. After that, take them out and with the help of a small brush, clean the jewels nicely. Ensure that the prong settings, crevices and other curved places are tended to properly. Rinse it off with fresh water. In case the gold jewelry has certain stones attached to it, use a damp cloth to wipe off the surface, first with soapy water and then with fresh water. For drying purpose, keep the gold jewel along with the stone pieces in an upside down position, so that the stones don’t come off.
Silver-The major problem with silver is tarnishing. It acts like a coat on the upper surface of silver marrying its charm. To clean pieces of silver, take a bowl of warm water and add a few drops of mild soap in it. Take the silver items and rub them off in this solution and then rinse off with cold fresh water instantly. Take care not to soak the silver items since they get to tarnish further that too at a greater speed. Buff dry and see the original glaze on it. In case the coating of tarnish is too heavy, use a paste of baking soda and water in the ratio of 3: 1. Add this paste on the surface of silverware with the help of lint free cloth, since paper towels may cause scratches on it. Now rinse it with water and buff dry to remove the heavy coating of tarnish.
Pearls- Being porous in nature, pearls can lose their lustre very easily. Hence, a no-soaking technique needs to be applied to it. Place the pearl beads on a soft cloth. Now take a cloth and dampen it in a mild soap solution. Dab the pearls with it and then use a dry cloth to pat dry. The pearls will get back their original luster.
