It is really wonderful to watch the shining of diamond sitting in their mountings. But the wonder turns to worries when it gets switched or lost from its mounting. This happens just because of the reason that you forget to inspect your jewel with a professional jeweler.
But most of us still believe that unscrupulous jewelers may switch the diamond or mistakes can be made by trusted jewelers during inspection or repairs. This is what prevents people from inspecting the diamonds. But it is not the truth. It is sure that most of the jewelers will never even think about switching diamond for another or for unwanted risk. It affects their popularity and reputation. They never like to cripple their business or to face lawsuit for a single diamond that comes to their hands at fraction of retail price.
Still, here are some of the important ways to prevent switching of diamond when it is with the jeweler.

Reputable and Established Jewelers
Inspect your diamond with trusted, established and reputable jewelers who keep commitments to community. Make sure that the jeweler has years of existence and is the member of jewelry organisation like The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC), Jewelers of America (JA) and the American Gem Society (AGC). These organizations are formed to operate under highest business standards and practice. They have complied with all the laws related with jewelry industry. They make accurate representations about all the products they sell. JVC will represent on your behalf in case of any complaint you have with the any of the members of the organisation. Hence, look for the member sticker that the jewelers proudly display on the front doors to attract the customers.
Test the diamond:-
All jewelry stores make use of electronic diamond tester. It is a device that sends electric signals or current through the item. It reads the fastness or travel time taken by the current. This gives the information about the density of the diamond. The device is made to read only the density of the diamond. When it is diamond, it shows a green light and if the product does not match with diamond density, it shows red light or no light. You can make use of this device before and after the inspection of diamond. From this test, you can make sure that you receive diamond, not necessarily yours.
Diamond certificate number
Most of the certified diamond will have certificate number laser engraved on its girdle. Girdle is the line that divides the top or what called crown from bottom or pavilion of diamond. This certificate number is engraved by trusted and reputable jewelers to make sure that customers receivers the exact certificate. Make sure that your jeweler checks for this laser engraved number when it is given for inspection. Keep in mind that the engraving is too small, and it is difficult to see with even trained eyes. Professional jewelers inspect this number with 10 power lope or gem scope. Make sure that the jeweler writes this number on your repair ticket.
Plot the diamond
Plotting means drawing the topographical rendition of diamond’s natural inclusions and their locations resting within your diamond. Make sure that you take the drawing of the diamond after inspection and it perfectly matches with your previous one.
